Our story

A family, a farm and a beach worth protecting.

1982

A story of adventure, love and family.

Heart and Honey Akerson set sail from Oregon and arrived in Bahía Ballena in 1982. Over the past forty years they raised nine children here, amid the lush tropical forest, creating a life straight out of a storybook. Each member of the family brings their own talents to Los Vivos.

The land is part of Finca Orgánico El Tajo, an organic farm that champions sustainable practices. Beyond caring for the surrounding environment, it supports dozens of local families who benefit from its organic plantations.

“Our hope is that they leave feeling a bit more elevated, better, healthier, with greater respect for the world, and more in tune with nature than when they arrived.”

Opening our home

Reachable only by boat, on purpose.

The Akersons opened the Los Vivos Beachfront Experience to share their home with adventurous souls. With no road in, it offers a rare chance to disconnect and be fully present: white sand, clear water and a forest full of life.

Every element is crafted to keep that calm. The cabins and rooms blend craftsmanship with nature. Wi-Fi is available, but we gently encourage a digital detox.

From the farm

Honey’s Saturday market.

Our restaurant cooks with ingredients from Honey’s organic farmers’ market, which she shares with the surrounding communities every Saturday, together with local farms and sustainable fisheries.
